The library and repair shop is formed by people’s movement and needs at the junction of Queen, King, and River Street in Downtown Toronto. Providing access to tools and the knowledge on how to use them, the library fills a need felt by those of all ages and backgrounds in the city’s core. The program is split into a workshop on the first floor that extends to the outdoors on warm summer days and a library found on the second floor that can be accessed directly from the street via a pedestrian bridge. The brick and oxidized copper exterior reference the tactile nature of the program in a style popular in Toronto while the carved form is a result of leftover space found between popular paths of travel together firmly implanting it in city life.
